Best Season / Best time to visit Chopta

The weather of Chopta remains pleasant during summers. These three months will be of a maximum temperature of around 30°C and a minimum temperature of around 10°C. You should Carry light woolens in summers and heavy woolens in winters while planning a visit to Chopta. Due to the pleasant weather,Chopta valley is best visited during the summer.

The months of July, August and September are the monsoon months in Chopta. It’s better to carry along adequate rain gear during your trip to Chopta at this time.

November, December, January, and February are the months of Winters in Chopta. solitude and Serenity are at its best during winters at Chopta. The maximum temperature in the region during this time will be around 15°C and the minimum temperature will be around (-15°C. you can see the best of Chopta during winters as it looks like mini Switzerland during winters. Visiting Chopta during this time is not advisable.


Tungnath Temple

Tungnath is the highest temple of Lord Shiva placed at an altitude of 3,680mts above sea level. The divinity of the Zone of Tungath is considered unapproachable. Shiva’s arm is worshipped here in Tungnath and is one of Panch Kedar.


Chandrashila can be reached after a little more than 1 km trek from Tungnath. you can enjoy 360 degree panoromic views of the gigantic Himalayas from Chandrashila.


Located 39kms from Chopta it is is the headquarters of Chamoli Garhwal.


Ukhimath is situated 31kms from Chopta,This is the winter home of Lord Kedarnath or Lord Shiva. During winters, As Kedarnath receives heavy snowfall during winters the idol of Lord Kedarnath is worshipped in Ukhimath.

In the Chopta-Gopeshwar road, Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary is famous for breeding musk deers. This place is also popular for its dense forests and aromatic flowers. This sanctuary covers an area of 5 sq. m and is an ideal place for tourists to view rare Himalayan wildlife.

By Road : Chopta is situated 40 kms from Ukhimath. Chopta is well connected by motorable roads with major towns of Garhwal,Uttarakhand. Buses and taxis to Chopta are available from major towns of Uttarakhand region. Chopta is also accessible from Gopeshwar.
